The Singing Telegram

January 7, 2009

I’ve always heard of singing telegrams, but never experienced one first hand.  My lovely wife decided to send me one at work today for my birthday.  Fortunately not many people were around.  And fortunately it’s not easy to just walk in to my work office becaue of security.  I appreciate her doing that though and really appreciate the homemade biscuits and gravy she fixed this morning for breakfast.  I can now only dream about the Nelson cake for dinner tonight.

By the way, this is Mrs. Twinkle who sang to me.

Bama 36, Auburn 0

What a great way to finish off Thanksgiving weekend–blowing out Auburn.  I wanted us to put 80 points on them, but I’m satisfied with 36.  I wonder what Charles Barkley is saying since his guaranteed Auburn victory didn’t happen?  We had a good day on campus before the game.  And it was good having Mark in town too.  I loved how clearly TV viewers could hear Rammer Jammer.  Click this link to hear it about four times.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAmFlZelSfA

Once football is over, I’ll probably start focusing on who could replace Gottfried as the basketball coach.  I understand Derek is willing to help with this one.  And if anyone wants to know what the score will be against Florida next weekend, just ask Alabama Investor.  He’s been extremely accurate this year.

Iron Bowl Weekend

November 27, 2008

Even though Thanksgiving dinner was great, we still have the Alabama/Auburn game to look forward to this Saturday.  Roz and I will spend one more game day on campus taking in the atmosphere and eating Big Bad Wolves BBQ.

Interesting fact about Iron Bowl history: it was dormant from 1907-1948 for a few reasons.  Some say it was from violence and dirty play and others say it was contracts and Auburn wanted an unbiased ‘northern man’ to officiate.

Millville Groomsmen

We finally got our pictures from the wedding.  Slowly we will get them posted on line.  Here is one of my favorites of the groomsmen.  I appreciate them coming from all over the country to spend a few days with me and Rozlynn.  Thank you Brooke for sending this.

Game Day Weekend

My dad, brother Joseph, and his son Blake, came to town this weekend for the Alabama/Miss. State game.  It was nice to see Bama roll once again, and it was Blake’s first Bama game with his dad.  We had a great time, and the bbq from Big Bad Wolves didn’t disappoint.  It was cold, but worth every minute at the game, even though Joseph and I were pretty mad during the first half.

Mentone, AL

Rozlynn and I had a great trip to Mentone this weekend.  I think it’s one of Alabama’s best kept secrets.  The foilage was perfect and the views were great.  We recommend it, along with Little River Canyon, Desoto Falls, and there more spots that we haven’t experienced yet.  It was a perfect weekend with Bama winning and Mentone.  Here is where we will stay next time there.  And we will also do some snow skiing at Cloudmont.  It doesn’t compare to the Rockies, but it will do.  There are several pics in the Various Pictures section.

Halloween Party at Norris’

We celebrated Jeff’s 30th birthday at his house in Birmingham last night.  It was my first costume party in a long time.  This is what Rozlynn and I were.  We were a mix of 80’s and white trash.  We were relieved to come away with the funniest costume.  We had to do some shopping at Wal-Mart and Walgreens too, and some people gave us funny looks, but we enjoyed staying in character.

It was good to see some old friends:  Stephen and Jill, Doug and Sarah, Cameron and Cindy, and of course Jeff and Faye.

Georgia Death Match

September 27, 2008

Today was just about a perfect day–spent it with my wife, the weather was perfect, went biking, and watched Bama pound UGA.  Actually I got pretty mad in the second half when we let them get in the game and move the ball.  But I guess I’m okay with the 41-30 outcome.  Georgia is my second favorite team in the SEC, but I am loyal to my alma mater and love college football.  It’s been great seeing at least three top 10 teams lose this weekend to unranked teams,–another reason I love college football.

My question is how many Alabama fans were there, especially since there’s no gas in Atlanta?  Oh well, I wish I could have joined in the Rammer Jammer in person.

Dreamland

Tonight Rozlynn and I are eating at the original Dreamland.  I am fortunate enough to have a wife that loves good bbq.  Once I took her to the original, she never wants to go back to the other locations.

I posted more pictures from the wedding and honeymoon on the ‘various pictures’ tab.  Still waiting for the professional ones.

I’ve been getting used to life again after almost two weeks off work.  Those were good days,.. but they will only get better.  At least I still haven’t had to pay $4/gallon gasoline yet.

The Honeymoon Is Officially Over, but Life Is Great

September 15, 2008

One of these days I’ll have a working computer and post some great pics of our past week and a half.  Roz and I got married on the 6th and the wedding and reception and other parties were perfect.  We really appreciate all our family and friends who sacrificed time and money to be there.  The honeymoon on the beach was great too.

I’ve had a lot to talk about lately, but my priority has been my  new little bride.  I was disgusted with the gas prices on Friday.  We had a hard time finding somewhere to get gas since everywhere was full.  I’ve never paid $4/gallon and didn’t plan to start then.  And I didn’t.

We had a great time at the Alabama football game Sat too.  It was Roz’s first and she loved it.

Life is good here.  Derek, thanks for the ‘thoughtful’ video.  Some of you know the inside jokes, and some of you know some of it is a stretch….  That’s okay Derek, your intentions are appreciated.

I posted a few pics in the various pics section.  More to come.
