The Oasis

Just off highway 11 in Cottondale is a little joint called The Oasis.  You’d never guess it, but they have the best burgers in town.  Better than Five Guys, Hooligans, and Mugshots.  They advertise “the best cheeseburger in town… Cottondale, that is.”

If you want a good, greasy burger, and don’t care how you smell when you leave; you need to hit the Oasis.  You will not be let down.  I’ve always been told Joe Namath was a regular there.
This picture is from my experience today.  P-diddy, what did you think?

“Lone Survivor” Book Review

August 9, 2009

This is the latest book I’m reading.  My brother-in-law, Steve, gave it to me last week while we were visiting them in Utah and I’m eating it up.  Of course, it makes me think of my brother in the special forces.

It also helps us realize how little we American know what is going on in the world, and specifically right now in the middle east.  I get frustrated that we haven’t found bin Laden yet, or even just wiped out a few countries over there, but I’m very thankful for these men, especially the highly trained and skilled men in the special forces, that take honor in fighting in extrememly risky situations to remove evil ones from this earth, and to capture needed information to protect our lives.

I also like that fact that my line of work helps protect our soldiers with the remote weapon stations.
One more book that I highly recommend.

On another note, I’ve got football fever.  I can’t wait for Sept 5.  Not only for the Bama game, but also Georgia/Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma/BYU.

HR 45 Gun Bill

June 17, 2009

I received a bothering call from the NRA tonight regarding a recent anti-gun bill,  H.R. 45.  This bill would basically make it illegal to own any loaded firearm for self-defense–or to have it in a place where it’s available for protection of gun owner and/or family.  And get this, the government agency over this would be able to inspect your home to make sure the gun is stored properly.
This doesn’t surprise me because I knew those associated with Obama would push this topic hard, even though we all know the President kept saying he’s a supporter of the Second Amendment…  What’s scary is the government would tell us if we can have a gun, and if we are capable of owning the current gun(s) we may have.  I don’t need some left wing city slicker telling me if I’m capable of owning a gun, and taking my fingerprints for this purpose.  This is none of the government’s business.  The NRA says this bill ”focuses on the instruments of crime rather than the criminals”.

Here are some links to read about it.  Their explanations are much better than mine.

Smith’s Machine–Where I Work

May 30, 2009

Fox 6 recently did a segment on the machine shop where I work.  I love my  job and especially this military project that has really gotten us recognized.  This link will take you to the story.

Back-hair Cut

April 19, 2009

This was taken by Mark at a barber in Florida.  I know plenty of people have back hair, but this guy takes it to a whole new level–having his barber shave it in the shop during operating hours.  It was a great laugh.

Anthony Grant Arrives In T-town

March 29, 2009

Even though he wasn’t my first choice, I’m glad to see Coach Grant at the Univ. of Alabama now.  We can only improve from here.  Looking at his resume, he has recruited some highly talented players at Florida, and I just learned he won three high school state titles in Florida before coaching in college.
I just hope he’s not a bust, because Mark Gottfried was considered an up-and-coming young coach when we hired him.  I wanted someone a little more proven than Grant, (like Mike Anderson) but it’s a done deal and I’m happy.

He got a very good reception at the airport today.  Roz and I were there, and he had to be impressed by the support from the fans.

The intelligence of our military is incredible.  I realize this much more after Mark explaining how they call in and direct attacks.

Time Off

January 31, 2009

When I started this website, it was with intentions of using it for business.  Since that still hasn’t happened, I think it’s time to take a little break for a month or so.  And I just jumped on the Facebook bandwagon.

Hopefully in the near future it will be resurrected and actually have helpful information, and provide a way for me to benefit monetarily.
Thanks to all who read and commented.  Keep visiting regardless!

Flying Men

January 28, 2009

I am one of those that has always been intrigued by flying, whether by plane, jump, or some other way.  This video will make you feel like a kid again just by watching.  I’d love to take part in this.  But I don’t think I’d ever get as close to the cliff walls and roads as some here did.  You’ll be amazed by this link, if it’s real anyway.

Farewell President Bush

January 16, 2009

I have always admired President Bush–especially after seeing his response to the 9/11 attacks and his relentless determination to protect our country.  I think he’s an inspiring man.  And I especially respect him for sticking to his guns when everyone seemed against him during this whole war in the middle east (even though I didn’t agree with how it was all handled and is still being handled.)  He has the kind of character all leaders need.

I enjoyed his speech last night and he always motivates me, similar to the Bear.
