This is very troubling, and yet not too surprising to me now.
“Lone Survivor” Book Review
This is the latest book I’m reading. My brother-in-law, Steve, gave it to me last week while we were visiting them in Utah and I’m eating it up. Of course, it makes me think of my brother in the special forces.
It also helps us realize how little we American know what is going on in the world, and specifically right now in the middle east. I get frustrated that we haven’t found bin Laden yet, or even just wiped out a few countries over there, but I’m very thankful for these men, especially the highly trained and skilled men in the special forces, that take honor in fighting in extrememly risky situations to remove evil ones from this earth, and to capture needed information to protect our lives.
I also like that fact that my line of work helps protect our soldiers with the remote weapon stations.
One more book that I highly recommend.
On another note, I’ve got football fever. I can’t wait for Sept 5. Not only for the Bama game, but also Georgia/Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma/BYU.
Bold, Fresh Guy
I know it’s been a long time, but honestly, what is there interesting for me to write about regularly? I will figure that out one day.
I have recently finished this book by Bill O’Reilly and loved it. There aren’t too many books that really keep my attention, but this one did. It’s basically about a man being a man; working hard for what you get, understanding that kids play hard and get hurt, it’s okay to have winners and losers in kids’ sports (so parents of tee-ballers, you can keep score–I feel strongly about this one), the sixties were not a time to brag about, friendship is important, stand for something, yada, yada. He also has some great thoughts on the whole Hurricane Katrina situation.
After reading this book and Culture Warrior, I have become much more of a fan of Mr. O.
How To Read A Person Like A Book
I’m reading this book by Nierenberg and Calero, and it’s very interesting. Do you ever think about non-verbal communication? or wonder what someone is really thinking when they talk to you with their arms folded or hands on hips? I don’t think there’s any reason to dig too deep into it, but it’s interesting to study.
I do like watching people at airports or sporting events–anywhere where there are many strangers together. You should try it. See who seems confident, nervous, shy, frustrated, etc. Watch their hands, fingers, voice fluctuations, posture, and other non-verbals.
Think about your visitors. When they are getting ready to leave, they may position their bodies as if to get up and go. A smart host will notice this and say “it’s getting late…” I don’t claim to be good at any of this, but I like to read about it and practice it; so I’ll try harder.
This could be important in dating. I’m not going to talk about that because I’m no expert, but it might be helpful to know if the lady you’re with is bored or not. I’m sure there were many times I didn’t pick up on my date’s signs, but oh well. I’m glad I only get to date my wife now.
Honk If I Pay Your Mortgage
Fortunately I’m still paying my own. How about you? We can thank the Patriotshop.us for this.
Reagan Wisdom
The more I learn about Obama’s economic recovery plan, the more I am bothered. The PatriotPost has a great article today comparing Ronald Reagan to Obama. Here is a clip from Reagan’s inaugural address in 1981:
“The economic ills we suffer … will not go away in days, weeks, or months, but they will go away. They will go away because we, as Americans, have the capacity now, as we have had in the past, to do whatever needs to be done to preserve this last and greatest bastion of freedom. In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. … Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed. It is my intention to curb the size and influence of the federal establishment and to demand recognition of the distinction between the powers granted to the federal government and those reserved to the states or to the people. All of us need to be reminded that the federal government did not create the states; the states created the federal government.”
He says government is the problem, and I agree. This article contains a ton of good information, but I will stop with this. Read if for yourself. Who can restore Americans’ confidence today? Who knows, maybe Pres. Obama can, but I won’t put too much stock in that.
The Patriot Post
I subscribe to The Patriot Post, a concise, informative and entertaining analysis of the week’s most important news, policy and opinion delivered to my e-mail inbox at no charge. If you want to subscribe go to http://patriotpost.us/subscribe.php It’s the internet’s leading advocate (in my opinion) of individual liberty, the restoration of constitutional limits on government and the judiciary, and the promotion of free enterprise, national defense and traditional American values. These are good guys.
ps, I gave in and had to make another post. Changes could be coming soon though.
Flying Men
I am one of those that has always been intrigued by flying, whether by plane, jump, or some other way. This video will make you feel like a kid again just by watching. I’d love to take part in this. But I don’t think I’d ever get as close to the cliff walls and roads as some here did. You’ll be amazed by this link, if it’s real anyway.
Gottfried Out At Bama
It was made official today that Mark Gottfried is no longer the head basketball coach at UA. I’ve wanted this to happan for a while, but still liked the guy. Look at the excitement on my face in this picture. And look at Derek–his fist was clinched even then. Derek has lead the way for at least two years to get rid of Gottfried. We kept this a little quiet because of our good friend Becky. She worked for him and was completely loyal to him. I wonder if I can now have that crimson sport coat he wore to certain SEC games?
I knew there was a problem this past Saturday when we took some of my nieces and nephew to the UA/UK game. A man sold me 6 tickets for $10. This was too good to pass up. That’s sad when face value is $18/ticket.
He was a good player here in the 80’s and did well at times as coach, but we could never win on the road. I always knew we were going to lose at Ole Miss too–it was a given. Something about Mark and the Tad Pad.
So long coach. I do appreciate your hard work here, even though it wasn’t enough. I wish him well. And surely we’ll bring in a big-name coach now that will recruit some ball handlers and teach basketball, not street ball.

I’ve always appreciated and respected the farmers of our country. I developed this mainly by driving many times from Alabama to Kansas City, MO. There is a lot of farmland between here and there. I think the farmers have been forgotten about for a long time from the government–making it harder and harder to have a farm, and to make a profit.
This situation that Hannity is covering in CA is shocking. How can the government cut off water because some fish are being poisoned? It’s not terribly surprising since animals are increasingly getting more and more rights than humans. This is so baffeling, and also laughable because I’m sure 50 years ago, no one would have though our country would come to this. The governor of CA is actually having to plead with the fed to turn the water back on. Can you believe that? I too feel that the federal government, as Arnold said, is ’screwed up’.
