I wish Bama would hire me as their “bring you down to earth coach” because I would have had them believing that they better prepare more for Utah than any other team they’d played this season. I am positive and hopeful, but also a realist.
I have been looking forward to the Sugar Bowl since it was announced and hate to see football season go, but after last night’s mauling, I’m left dazed and confused–but not completely because I always try to keep my expectations somewhat low for bama.
I’ve said all along that Utah was a great team and could beat us. Very few believed me. Well, there are no excuses for what happened last night. Yes, we would have done better with Andre Smith, but the Tide wasn’t focused. They lacked intensity and clearly didn’t take Utah seriously. I believe that no matter who you play, you must take them seriously (unless we’re playing a high school team). We all know I’m a huge, loyal, Alabama fan, but I feel after last night that Utah can now say “screw all you who thought we didn’t deserve to be here and play with the big boys.” I know I’d feel that way.
We played horribly, and Utah played almost flawlessly. Congrats to all my friends and family who are Utah fans. And I hope Alabama players and coaches ache over this one until spring practice because they didn’t show us anything last night (except for a great punt return by Arenas) and let a lot of people down. Roll Tide!
As a Bama fan, that was the worst football game I have ever watched. I found myself flipping the channels during the game and actually watching Rachel Ray on the Food Network for several minutes…oddly enough, it wasn’t that different from watching Alabama’s offense. Bama looked pitiful! I was embarrassed and still can’t hardly talk about it. But there is always next year.. RTR!
Rachel Ray??.. wow. Since I was at the game, I decided I wasn’t leaving until the clock hit zero, but I was emotionally exhausted. It was pathetic. And got so bad it was almost humorous.
Yes Rachel Ray… that’s how bad the game was. I was more entertained by her than by the pitiful performance Bama put on. Maybe if they’d have loosened their bra straps they could have played better… Or maybe they should have just put the flag line out there on the field…I bet they could have done a better job stopping that UT QB…
As a Bama grad but MWC guy most of my life, I was torn on who I should cheer for during this game. My wife made up my mind for me when I picked her and my two boys up after work and found they were all dawning Bama gear. She told me “Alabama deserves to win this game more than Utah does b/c this is literally all the Alabama fans want out of life.” Obviously that is an overstatement, but just barely!
So we all cheered for Bama that night. But, I was not too disappointed when the Utes pulled off the upset. I definitely became a Roll Tider during my years in T Town, but one thing that drove me crazy while I lived there was the attitude most football fan’s in the South seem to have – that the only good teams in America come from the SEC. There are great teams all over the place and I hope this BCS BS goes away soon. Nice post Thad.
Well put Dave, and bless JesseAnn’s heart for helping you decide who to cheer for. Utah impressed the whole nation.
Rachel is hot…at least better looking than Saban. Me thinks ‘Bama spent a few too many nights tossing back the brew and chasing the transvestites on Bourbon Street and were just to weak and tired to play.
Utah was awesome – probably one of the fastest offenses and defenses I have seen this year. Saban needs to take note of that because that type of speed will be Bama’s undoing in ‘09.
Utah did do well. My husband made my 5 year old son cry because he yelled so loud and jumped when Utah made their first touchdown in the first quarter. At one point they showed these little Alabama kid fans and it nearly broke my heart to see how sad they looked. But I guess it was a deserved win.
