Major Select Joseph Forester

One of my brothers, Joseph, who is a Captain in the Air Force was recently selected to be promoted to Major.  He is a Staff Pediatrician at the USAF Academy caring for 1500 Air Force dependent children.  He has done TDY’s in Honduras and Bolivia, caring mostly for children.  I think he did the wise thing by working with the youngsters versus adults.
He is famous for diagnosing kids with a “leather deficiency”.  This tends to happen when the kids he is seeing are out of control and have no parental discipline.  If anyone doesn’t know what I am refering to, let me know.  I am very familiar with this term, and I had nowhere near a leather deficiency while growing up.

On another note, given the increased publicity Barack Obama and his pastor have received lately, I will probably voice my strong feelings on these two rascals soon.  I may discuss why Obama is the perfect anti-American presidential hopeful.

Sue-Happy Generation

For all the people who want the SEC to reimburse them for the money they spent traveling to Atlanta and hotel reservations; get over it!  You got your money back on the tickets.  I have an idea, why don’t you appeal to God?  The tornado that hit downtown Atlanta and damaged the Georgia Dome was an act of nature and the SEC handled the situation effectively.  I’m tired of people complaining and questioning why they didn’t let people know eight minutes prior that there was a tornado warning.  What could have been done with the 30,000 people–nothing.

Yes, I know many were upset that they lost money and didn’t get to see the games they traveled to see, but sometimes we don’t get everything we want.  Isn’t that something our parents taught us when we were two?  Too many people are looking for quick money that they don’t have to work for.

We are fortunate that no one was injured in the dome and it seems that the Alabama/Miss. State game going into overtime may have saved many lives.  We can all think Mykal Riley for that.  He hit the important three at the buzzer.

So, how about being thankful that you’re alive and not missing a limb or picking yourself up from being slammed against the side of the CNN building.

Bracket Time

The NCAA Basketball tournament is one of my favorite times of the year.  I will be filling out a few brackets early this week, and I can’t wait until the games in Birmingham this weekend because I’ll be there.  I love seeing how hard each team plays.  Alabama Investor and I were just talking about the Kansas Kurse.  I’m sure I’ll have them getting beat in the 2nd or 3rd round because that’s normally what they do.  I have a group created on ESPN called Bamaembarrassment2.  If you want to join this tournament challenge, holler.  Stubbs, you better join because you’re going down.

And it looks like I was wrong on Bama getting an invite to the NIT.  Oh well.  I did enjoy seeing Virginia Tech get left out of the big dance after watching their coach call the committee ‘certifiably insane’ if they didn’t think his team was one of the top 65 teams in the country.  That rant didn’t help any because he’s now headed to the NIT.  His team probably is one of the top 65 teams in the country, but we know the Big Dance isn’t necessarily the top 65 teams.

I officiated a youth basketball tournament all day yesterday.  The first game was girls and it was hard not to call traveling or double dribble about every two seconds.  One game’s score was 2-0, and the others were very low.  We were a little more strict on the boys, but we still let them play without blowing the whistle often.  It was a nice little workout because we probably called 10-12 games throughout the day.

NIT Invite??

After watching Bama lose to Miss. State tonight following an hour weather delay was disappointing, but I wonder, will we be invited to the NIT?  Before the seaon was over I would have answered that question: “Definitely Not”, but we may have a chance now.  Our play was decent tonight in my opinion.  We were lucky to make it to overtime with that miraculous 3-pointer by Riley as time expired.  If we go to the NIT, I won’t expect much, but I still hope we win several games.  I’ll always be a big fan.

Speaking of weather, how about that tornado that hit downtown Atlanta during the overtime period?  It was loud and I’m sure peole inside the building thought the roof was coming down.  Winter and Spring in the south are unpredictable.

Bama Actually Won Two SEC Games In A Row

The SEC Tournament began today and Alabama played Florida.  We jumped out 14-0 and ended up winning by 11.  Once again Riley had a great night from behind the crimson arc.  I was very impressed with how we passed the ball and played defense.  We tried to give it away in the second half, which I expected, but found a way to win.  This is the first time we’ve won two SEC games in a row this year.

We play Mississippi State tomorrow and are capable of beating them.  I won’t get my hopes up too much, but if we play like we did tonight, we’ll advance past State.

Steven, what did you think about the game?  We even made improvements from the free throw line.

The F-bomb Has Arrived

My brother Mark was granted a few days off and caught a last minute flight home today. He is currently in San Antonio preparing for Combat Control School in North Carolina. I think he actually came home for a home-cooked meal. Some of his buddies refer to him as the F-bomb, Dolph (as in Dolph Lundgren who Rocky fought in #4), Dad, and the Stormin’ Mormon. I’ve attached some pictures of him in training. Teresa/Tina, don’t fall in love…

Tennis Season Has Begun

It has now started warming up which makes it perfect tennis weather.  Our men’s doubles league started last night.  My regular partner is injured so Michael played with me, and probably will play several matches until Rich recovers.  Michael is extremely athletic and quick.  He covers a lot of ground and amazes our opponents.  We played in a tournament together last summer and did very well.  It was our first time playing together and everyone watching wondered how in the world he could jump so high.  It sure is nice having him at the net.  At one point during the tournament, he jumped for a ball, but realized he’d jumped way too early.  That was no problem because he just waited for the ball, in mid-air, and once it was within reach, he slammed it.

We won the match last night, but it wasn’t easy.

Relay For Life

I am participating in a Relay For Life walk in May with my work, Ox Bodies.  It has something to do with the American Cancer Society.  This is the first time I’ve ever done anything like this, but I was asked so I might as well walk or run all night long (6 pm to 6 am) that Friday night.  Our company must have someone participating during the entire 12 hour period.

So, here I go; we are supposed to raise money.  Since I don’t like asking people for money, I’m putting this out there for anyone who wants to contribute.  If you feel so inclinded, just let me know.  If not, I won’t be offended.  Personally, I don’t get real involved in things like this, but have always supported my good friends who take part in events similar, like Brandon’s MS cycle ride from Houston to Austin each year.  Brandon, I will go ahead and make it clear that I’m not wearing a tuxedo during this relay.

Bama 78 Vandy 73

Went to the Alabama basketball game today and watched Bama beat #16 Vanderbilt in overtime on Senior Day.  My buddy Michael and I sat on the floor, which is always a better atmosphere.  It was a fun game to attend.  Unfortunately, many people are down on the basketball program and there was only about 8 or 9 thousand people in the stands.  Mykal Riley went crazy from behind the crimson arc hitting three 3-pointers in OT and scoring the first 13 points in that extra period.
Another bit that was kind of exciting was seeing the cops silence a very loud and annoying lady sitting behind the Vanderbilt bench.  She must have been one of their players’ mothers.  Her voice was piercing to say the least.

I love college basketball and am excited to go to the first and second round games of the NCAA tournament in Birmingham in two weeks.

You want to know why I love college basketball?  I’ll tell you why; because I think they play harder and stick to the fundamentals of basketball; i.e. blocking out, following their shots, and listening to their coach.  In addition, college basketball has the band and the crazy student fans, although I’m glad I didn’t see ’speedo guy’ behind the goal today.

It’s tough for me to watch the NBA these days because they play lazy to me.  They never follow their shots, therefore few are ever in the paint to get an offensive rebound.  They play a lot of ’street ball’.  I couldn’t coach many of those guys because of their egos.  There are a few players that I realy like, Matt Harpring being one of them.  I’ve seen him play in Salt Lake City a few times and I think he plays harder than most in the league, and actually blocks out.

Steven, do you think our free throw shooting was a miracle today?  I do.  Roll Tide!

Celebrity Apprentice

Does anyone else like this show?  This is the first season that I’ve paid much attention to it.  For those of you that find it entertaining, you were not let down last night, or at least I wasn’t.  I loved seeing Piers’ very strong feelings towards Omarosa drive him to do whatever it took to get her off the show.  I was afraid his motives would backfire on him, but I was wrong.  I’m not a big fan of Piers either, but I have to admit that he is pretty effective when it comes to making money.  Of course, it doesn’t hurt to know lots of people with money that you can just call up and ask them to drop a few grand on the spot.  It’s safe to say that Piers purely hates Omarosa.  And I can’t blame him after what she repeatedly said about his family.

Last night’s ending was priceless and I loved his reaction to her accusations.  Looked like Trump did to.  I felt bad for Trace Adkins though, but he’ll get over it.  Thanks to the power of a DVR (Tivo), I can now watch a few shows on TV.
